This WSU Continuing Education offering will provide an opportunity for individuals trained as Peer Recovery Specialists to expand their knowledge and skills to support families and children impacted by SUD using evidence-based strategies. Substance use disorder has a profoundly negative impact on families and especially children. Yet, resources and support for these innocent and often invisible victims are limited and fragmented. Peer recovery specialists, although trained to work with persons with SUD, often interact with families as well and may serve as an untapped resource for families. Using current evidence, this course will prepare participants to:
provide support and facilitate positive coping for families impacted by SUD, assist families in providing support to children impacted by parental SUD and relate ACEs and, offer approaches families may use to help the family member with SUD, and, assist families in the navigation of resources.
