In honor of National Poetry Month, JaxbyJax is honored to host the esteemed poet, accomplished writer, and veteran educator, the inimitable, Lynn Skapyak Harlin!
During this Last Sunday Session, expect skill building, experimentation with poetic form, and celebrating community as we continue the 2023 JaxbyJax programming with the literary art of Poetry.
The Last Sunday Sessions are held at Cork Arts District, from 12-3 on the last Sunday of each month. The poetry workshop breakdown is:
12-2: (Cork Classroom) The hosted genre workshop and writing circle, given by Lynn Skapyak Harlin sharing expert knowledge in:
• What is a Poem?
• Definition of Free Verse, Figurative Language & Imagery
• Some Poetry Terms with examples from Lynn’s poems
• Find some of these elements in “Laura Dunn’s Antiphon” worksheet
• Why Writing the Different Forms of Poetry Matters
• Writing a Triolet and a Cinquain with instructions and examples
• What Makes a Good Poem?
2-3: An open mic hour to share in our words, ideas, and creative efforts. Work can be produced in the workshop or pre-composed for sharing.
Enter the south facing building of the Cork Arts District on the Rosselle Street entrance. Parking in lot beside building or along street. Follow the posters to the entrance and the classroom.
