DENVER, CO — A renowned Denver-based architect was shot to death Dec. 28 at his home in the city's Montclair neighborhood. One of his family members was also shot and wounded. Tameka Dudley, 44, and Joshua Hamm, 38, have been arrested in connection with the deadly shooting, the Denver District Attorney's Office announced Thursday. Both have been charged with first-degree murder, aggravated robbery and first-degree burglary. Denver police shot and killed 47-year-old Larry Hamm after they found Mark Outman dead, officials said. Officers were called to Outman's home in the 900 block of Monaco Street after a woman called 911 from the home and said she was shot during a burglary. The officers said they saw three people running away from the home, and Outman was found shot to death. Several minutes later, the officers heard gunfire and saw Hamm trying to carjack someone, police said. Police shot Hamm, and he was taken to the hospital where he died, officials said. The three had dressed up as utility workers to gain access to the property, according to multiple reports. The woman who was shot was later identified by family friends as Outman's daughter. She was hospitalized in critical condition. As of Monday, her condition was not known. Invite a friend to subscribe to free Denver newsletters and real-time email alerts. Dozens of virtual candles have been lit in a gun violence memorial for Outman, who friends described as a soft-spoken, talented architect who led a highly successful career. Outman spent more than three decades designing projects around the world, which included government buildings, airports and the exterior of Denver's own Empower Field at Mile High, according to his profile with Fentress Architects, where he worked. "During his graduate studies at Yale University, Mark had extensive interaction with nationally and internationally recognized leading architectural practitioners, scholars and critics including James Freed, Thomas Beeby, William Turnbull, Todd Williams, Cesar Pelli, Michael Sorkin and Vincent Scully," Outman's profile read. "Mark's relentless pursuit of design excellence guides his work in creating memorable places for people." As an architect, Outman's motto was "strong, simple, elegant, refined and functional, lasting and responsible — that is always the balance to achieve." In several public social media posts, his colleagues said he was a "terrific collaborator" who died in a "senseless tragedy."
