A Conference on Multigenerational, Trauma-Informed, Healing-Centered Care for Perinatal Women Experiencing Substance Use and Mental Illness. Objectives: Describing reproductive justice as a framework for trauma-informed, healing-centered care of perinatal women experiencing substance use and mental illness. Introducing the Redleaf Way as an approach to supporting perinatal women and their children impacted by substance use and mental illness.Inviting participants to a “call to action” to support perinatal families experiencing substance use and mental illness. Promoting curiosity and connection among attendees to leave with actionable steps to promote generational healing for perinatal families experiencing substance use and mental illness. Beyond the Baby Blues is a half day conference designed to educate professionals and families about mood disorders and anxiety before, during and after pregnancy. This year's conference will be held on Tuesday, May 9th at the Delta Hotels Minneapolis Northeast, 1330 Industrial Boulevard NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413 Beyond the Baby Blues is put on by NAMI Minnesota, the Redleaf Center for Family Healing and Department of Psychiatry and Hennepin Healthcare System. Speakers: Helen Kim, MD Redleaf Center for Family Healing and Dept of Psychiatry, Hennepin Healthcare Dr. Kim is the Co-founder and Director of the Hennepin Healthcare Mother-Baby Program and Redleaf Center for Family Healing and Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Minnesota. She is a reproductive psychiatrist who promotes generational healing through mental health and parenting support that addresses root causes that undermine wellbeing, such as childhood trauma, toxic stress, poverty, and discrimination. She completed her psychiatry training at Massachusetts General Hospital and a chief residency in the MGH Center for Women’s Mental Health. Katie Thorsness, MD Redleaf Center for Family Healing and Dept of Psychiatry, Hennepin Healthcare Dr. Thorsness specializes in perinatal psychiatry and provides care at the Redleaf Center for Family Healing at Hennepin Healthcare and the University of Minnesota Psychiatry Department. She completed both her medical degree and psychiatry residency at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Thorsness co-directs the Hennepin Healthcare Perinatal Mental Health ECHO webinar program along with Dr. Cresta Jones. She has additional expertise in physician trainee mental health. Cresta Jones, MD, FASAM, FACOG University of MN Physicians, Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine Dr. Cresta Jones is an associate professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School, specializing in maternal-fetal medicine and addiction medicine. She completed her medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin and did her residency in OB/Gyn and her fellowship in maternal fetal medicine at the University of Vermont. Dr. Jones co-directs the Hennepin Healthcare Perinatal Mental Health ECHO webinar program along with Dr. Katie Thorness. Both her clinical and research work focus on perinatal substance use disorders and maternal health equity. Registration is at 8:30 am 9-9:20AM: Intro to Reproductive Justice and the conference topics 9:20-10:20: Perinatal Substance Use and Perinatal Mental Health from a Reproductive Justice framework (Dr. Katie Thorsness) 10:20-10:30AM: Break 10:30-11:15AM: the Redleaf Way – a multi-generational, trauma-informed, healing-centered framework for approaching perinatal substance use and mental health (Dr. Helen Kim) 11:15AM-noon: Invitations to Action and Q&A (Drs. Cresta Jones, Katie Thorsness, Helen Kim) This conference is (pending) approval for 2.5 hours of continuing education by the Minnesota Board of Social Work. A partial refund of 50% will be issued if you cancel 7-14 calendar days prior to the start date. No refund or credit will be given if you cancel less than 7 calendar days prior to the start date. NAMI Minnesota reserves the right to cancel any event, conference, or class due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. If there is a cancellation, participants will be notified by telephone and/or email as soon as possible. NAMI Minnesota will make reasonable efforts to reschedule.
