Professional Lyra Coach & Performer Katie Hoffman will be hosting a special pop-up series at Red Door Gallery this spring! Two separate workshops are available on this date, distinguished by experience and skill level: WORKSHOP A: "HOOP HAPPINESS" 11AM-12:30PM In this class we encourage all aerialists of all levels and apparatus choice to join. The movement and happiness this circle can create will have you leaving wanting to play more! *Ideal for beginners, but will also incorporate familiar skills with a bit of flair for a more experienced aerialist *8 student maximum for more attentive one-on-one instruction *Will practice basic mount/ dismounts, Lyra hoop warm-ups, strengthening exercises, and basic poses that will progress into a fun, stimulating sequence! *Lyra Hoop and mat provided WORKSHOP B: "LYRA LOVE" 1:30PM-3:00PM This class is designed for a more experienced Lyra aerialist, with a focus on creating a sequence where we "follow our spin" (gentle or with a bit more momentum), test our balance, and challenge our mental and physical stamina. *Ideal for students with aerial experience. Participants in this class must be able to mount and dismount on their own, and feel comfortable with the height and spin to get the most out of the session! *Lyra Hoop and mat provided IMPORTANT INFORMATION: All participants must sign a safety and liability waiver for the instructor and venue prior to the class, and adhere to these best practices to set you up for a safe and informative class: -No strong perfume or body lotion -No zippers, buttons, or jewelry -Please dress with your legs and armpits covered with clothing (this keeps your body safe from the silks- especially important for beginners! ) Leggings and a T-shirt are recommended. -Socks are optional, based on preference -If your hair is long, make sure to have it pulled back out of your face for class -Must be 18 or older to participate ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Katie Hoffman is a Detroit-based aerial instructor, coach, and performance artist specializing in Aerial sling, Lyra hoop, and Dance Trapeze. With over 5 years of experience, Katie has worked with local large-scale events like Theatre Bizarre and beyond! Katie currently teaches at two studios in the Metro Detroit area, and can't wait to bring this special series to RedDoor gallery. You can see more of Katie out on social media as @nimble.kate! ABOUT AERIAL ARTS: The goal of this course is to challenge the body and the mind in a safe, and supportive environment. Aerial art is a full-body experience that requires patience, focus, and a can-do attitude! If you are brand new to this discipline please keep in mind that it is a journey and not a quick trip, practice and consistency are key. Over time, you will build strength and gain confidence. Stick with it! Most who give Aerial fitness a try find it fun and rewarding. We look forward to having you!
