You are invited to help celebrate the 10th year of the Hercules Meadow.Our 9 ½ fall 2022 anniversary attendees requested a tour when the meadow was blooming…and we listened! This formerly farmed land was transitioned to a sustainable, diverse, and native preserve. Truly a land of learning for students of all ages.In November 2013, the Stockertown Plant of Buzzi Unicem USA broke ground for a 20- acre meadow on land formerly mono-cropped. This would become a meadow using plants native to Northampton County and eastern Pennsylvania. And, there would be 8- acres dedicated to growing green fuel for the cement kilns.With the assistance of Edge of the Woods Native Plant Nursery, the meadow was established with a variety of perennials and grasses that support pollinators, birds, and butterflies. Native trees and shrubs were introduced, creating a diverse landscape and protecting the habitat for all wildlife. The site has served as an outdoor classroom for 4 local school districts. Numerous bird, butterfly, and insect species have been documented on the site since its conversion to a preserve.We invite you to see how Buzzi Unicem USA has brought life to this landscape. Take a tour with us on Friday, May 19 th . You will see a thriving, mature meadow complete with an orchard, an American Chestnut experimental grove, a colonial outpost location, and learn about a local cement plant’s commitment to our environment through this effort.Light refreshments will be offered. You will be transported from the parking site to the meadow via a shuttle bus.This is an outdoor event, please dress for the weather. Wear sturdy walking or hiking shoes. The event will be held rain or shine. In the event of dangerous weather, we will contact you at the email address used for registration by noon on Friday May 19. We will also update this event page. The rain date is June 2. If you find that you are unable to attend after you register, please cancel your reservation to make room for someone on the waiting list.PLEASE NOTE THE ADDRESS PROVIDED ON THIS EVENT PAGE IS NOT THE ADDRESS OF THE MEADOW. THE MEADOW HAS A SMALL ACCESS LANE NEAR THE PLANT. YOUR CONFIRMATION WILL HAVE DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS ON WHERE TO PARK FOR THE EVENT AS WELL AS THE TENTATIVE EVENT SCHEDULE.
