Description

This Queen Rearing/ NUC Development event is for two (2) consecutive Saturdays in June: June 10th and June 17th from 10AM-2PM each day. June 10th will start with a presentation by Shaana Way describing the basics of queen rearing and providing education on several methods of raising queens and creating new colonies (NUCs). We will then take to the bee yard with hands-on demonstration to put into practice what we just learned in the classroom. We will actually begin the process of creating queen cells on this day and come back on June 17 to see the newly created queen cells. On June 17, we will recap what we covered on June 10th and then return to the bee yard to see how successful we were in creating new queens. We will then make new colonies from the new queen cells along with honey, nectar and pollen resources from the mother hive. Some NUCs may be available for sale to participants. Shaana will also be bringing mated queens with her to demonstrate how to mark a queen. These mated queens may also be available for sale to participants. Shaana Way is an experienced beekeeper and owner of Grassroots Honey Company, who specializes in breeding and raising quality queens for sale, honey sales and bee removal services. She resides in Galesburg, MI. If you have any questions, please send a note to [email protected] HABA looks forward to helping you increase your bee population with quality queens and new colonies!
