Description

The Evanston Lighthouse Rotary Club, Rotary Club of Evanston, and Skokie Valley Rotary Club are made up of members who contribute to and carry out successful service projects that benefit the local community and communities around the world. It is a part of Rotary International, which brings together a global network of volunteer leaders dedicated to addressing humanitarian challenges. Rotary connects 1.2 million members from more than 200 countries. The Empowering Girls Initiative aims to protect and empower girls and increase equity by ensuring their access to resources that improve their lives. Armor Down Girls (ADG) was founded in 2018 by Dr. Fee. The premise of ADG is to “arm” girls ages 8 to 21 with confidence and other qualities, to eliminate self-doubt and to empower through book characterizations. The books are selected based on lessons or themes where girls can learn, grow, and aspire. Books, rather fiction or nonfiction, can demonstrate characters’ struggles, successes, and other issues or experiences that may feel enormous at the time. Discussion of book characterizations offer a multitude of opportunities to help girls expand their own perspectives and understandings of life. Once registered you will receive an email to select breakout session and lunch request along with waiver sign off.
