Saxophonist, singer-songwriter, arranger, and Gulf Coast Records recording artist, Jimmy Carpenter is currently on tour promoting his fifth album and latest Gulf Coast Records release, The Louisiana Record. He won the 2022 Blues Music Award for Best Instrumentalist/Horn for the 2nd consecutive year. And he is now a Grammy-Winning Composer, for a composition he contributed to the New Orleans Nightcrawlers’ winning album, Atmosphere. Jimmy has toured internationally with Tinsley Ellis, Jimmy Thackery, Walter Wolfman Washington, Eric Lindell, and Mike Zito and the Wheel. 2019’s Soul Doctor, his first album on Gulf Coast Records, was extremely well-received worldwide. He has been a working musician for over 40 years, spent many years in New Orleans, and now resides in Las Vegas, where he is the Musical Director of one of the hottest blues festivals in the world, The Big Blues Bender. About Jimmy Carpenter: Jimmy relocated to Las Vegas from New Orleans in September, 2015. He has since steadily built an audience here, fronting his own quartet and becoming one of the mainstay artists at the world-famous Sand Dollar Lounge. His shows are high-energy and sax-centric, with a mixture of original and cover songs with a soul, r&b, blues and rock-n-roll vibe. The current band features guitar hero Chris Tofield, young drummer with an old soul, Cameron Tyler, and ultra pro bassist Mike Merritt. He has just recorded his 5th solo album, still untitled, his 2nd on Gulf Coast Records, following his 2019 release, Soul Doctor. In addition to local shows, he tours worldwide. This year he will appear at the Cahors Blues Festival (France), The Calgary Blues Festival (Canada), The Big Blues Bender (Las Vegas), Blues Festival Basel (Switzerland), Blues Heaven (w/Bender Brass, Denmark), followed by a 2 week tour of the UK. Jimmy is also the Talent Buyer and Musical Director of The Big Blues Bender, a Las Vegas festival that has quickly grown into one of the most popular in the world. (August 24-28, ’22, Westgate Resort and Casino). In addition to booking the talent, he leads the house band, called The Bender Brass, which has backed up a long list of musicians over the years, and is the backing band for the annual HART Party, which benefits the Blues Foundation’s Handy Artist Relief Trust. This year the Bender was given the coveted Keeping the Blues Alive Award for that event, which has raised over $250,000 for the fund. In addition to winning the BMA in 2021, he also won a Grammy for a New Orleans funeral dirge he wrote years ago with the help of co-writers Craig Klein and Wardell Quezergue, aka The Creole Beethoven. The piece, entitled Tomb Tune, appears on the Grammy-winning album Atmosphere, by the New Orleans Nightcrawlers. Jimmy is President of the Las Vegas Blues Society, a position he took over 4 years ago. Under his tenure, and with the invaluable assistance of the LVBS Board, the organization has grown to nearly 500 members. During the pandemic the LVBS distributed approximately $10,000 to musicians in Las Vegas. The regular monthly jams have grown into rollicking events, drawing many jammers and crowds of listeners. There are numerous special events as well, including their annual Ma’am Jam, featuring all female musicians, The Boulder City Beerfest, and the GramJam, which featured 15 Grammy nominees/winners. This year the LVBS will conduct the Vegas Valley Blues Brawl, a battle of the bands event to find the best blues band in Vegas, which will be sent to Memphis for the International Blues Challenge in January 2023. What the Music Press is Saying about The Louisiana Record: “The Louisiana Record is the kind of set that will get your whole neighborhood dancing if played loud enough. Get it and get going!” Mike O’Cull, Rock & Blues Muse”This is a great new album from Carpenter which also displays his fine vocal abilities…” Richard Ludmerer, Making A Scene“The Louisiana Record is a great look back, done with love and respect for a sound that for many of us was our rock-and-roll tutorial.” Grant Britt, No Depression Magazine“The arrangements are refreshingly straightforward, the back-up musicians New Orleans thoroughgoing pros. The atmosphere is loose and relaxed, and the songs melodic and affectingly sung… Carpenter's sax weaves in and out of the arrangements, drawing awe while seemingly not seeking it… the mood is attractively conversational. He's also a very fine vocalist, not always true when the artist's fame rests on instrumental gifts.” Jerome Clark, Rambles.NET“This release showcases a brilliant performance and superb recording… featuring songs by some of the most important songwriters in American music, artists like Allen Toussaint, Fats Domino, and Dr. John.. Whether your taste is blues or the great sounds of Louisiana, you will want to add this album to your library…” Oasis EntertainmentNo Refunds
