Collaborative Pelvic Exams: Consent, Compassion, and Trauma Informed Why is this important? If exams are not consent-based, the information gathering will be subpar, hindering the ability to make appropriate clinical decisions and damaging the patient/provider relationship. Pelvic exams gather information and are opportunities for healing Every time someone works with a pelvis and the energy around that part of the body, it's an opportunity for healing or harm. I can teach you how to facilitate healing. We know what obstetrical violence looks like, so what does a collaborative exam look like? Consent Compassion Trauma-informed. This class is for everyone who is present during an exam, preps or educates a person for an exam, or is part of the healing process of encouraging the jagged edges back together after a trash exam, emotionally, physically, spiritually, ALL OF IT. Folks who do exams, this is for you also. We will learn the setup for a collaborative exam and the components that lead to a successful team approach, led by the person whose body is receiving the touch. You will leave knowing what to ask for yourself, what your clients and patients need to ask for to be a self-advocate, and how to do a trauma-informed pelvic exam that facilitates healing. We will do a clothed practice and role play on this day. Part 2 (on a different day) will involve the actual exam on a volunteer. This will be an information-dense training, and most probs emotionally intense. We can do it, I’m not afraid to wade into the deep end. Note: This is a lowish -cost event. My ask is that you be on time (shout out to Flavor Flave.) If the 25 bucks is a hardship, reach out to me, please.
