Description

Botanical Illustrations are not just trendy wall art! If you are interested in learning more about this beautiful and functional form of art, come to this workshop to learn how each drawing also tells a story of the natural world, and they can even tell you a bit about the artist. These drawings and paintings can tell you whether or not the artist was interested in the form of the plant in the garden, or the function of the plant's biology for medicinal or edible use. This workshop will be taught by Kristen Ryan, a local artist and horticulturist. She has been working in gardens for the last 13 years, and has been creating art since elementary school. She firmly believes that anyone can create "good" art - it is just a matter of having time to practice, the desire to experiment, and the support of others in the art community. Come with whatever art supplies you like to create a quick botanical illustration. Kristen recommends at least a sketchbook, pencil, and eraser. Watercolor, colored pencils, or even crayons could be very useful but leave the acrylics and oil paints behind - we will have about 1 hour of drawing time. This workshop will take place at Wyck (6026 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19144). We will gather in the education building next to the Walnut Lane entrance.
