Professional birder Fred Dinkelbach will review some basic birding skills and then lead attendees on an easy one-mile hike through the different park habitats – listening and looking for our feathered friends in the height of their spring migration.
Attendees will meet at The Lodge and are encouraged to bring binoculars.
The event is free and open to the public.The hikes will be held rain or shine. Dress for the weather. Sturdy footwear is a must. You should bring insect repellant, sunscreen, refillable water bottle and any other personal items to make this day enjoyable and comfortable for you!
About our speaker:
Fred Dinkelbach has been birding for over 35 years. He is a 30-year member, and past president, of the Kirtland Bird Club of Northeast Ohio. Mr. Dinkelbach has surveyed Richfield Heritage Preserve, as part of the Greater Akron Audubon Society's summer breeding bird census, the previous 4 years and has witnessed 71 species there. For the past 33 years, he has participated in the greater Cleveland area spring bird walks (held on six separate weekends) as well as bird walks at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
About The Friends of Richfield Heritage Preserve:Friends of Richfield Heritage Preserve is a nonprofit advocacy group partnering with the Richfield Joint Recreation District to preserve, protect, enhance, and promote Richfield Heritage Preserve, formerly Crowell Hilaka. The Friends are currently working on restoration of the iconic Kirby’s Mill---built by well-known inventor Jim Kirby in 1922, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and located in the south end of RHP.
