Description

Discover San Leandro architecture, home styles, and history as you visit the seven sites on this tour. This event is possible thanks to our History Hero Sponsor, the Optimist Club of San Leandro. Explore three homes built in the 1920s: A lovely Tudor Revival designed by famous Bay Area architect William Raymond Yelland; A mom-and-pop grocery with a residence in back, meticulously restored by Jane Powell, noted author of Bungalow Kitchens and other Bungalow books;A storybook-style home right out of your favorite fairy tale. And four buildings with deep history in our community: The 1910 Masonic Temple--a rare opportunity to see inside this iconic downtown building; The 1898 Southern Pacific Railroad Depot, carefully restored by the San Leandro Historical Railway Society, which now operates model train layouts on site; The Historical Society's 1890 Little Brown Church, once the Sunday School wing and all that's left of the 1867 First Presbyterian Church; The 1860 Peralta Home/Alta Mira Club, the oldest building still standing in San Leandro, once the home of a Spanish land grant family and boasting a showcase interior of period finishes from floor to ceiling in many rooms. Back by popular demand from last year's tour. You'll pick up your tour booklet at the Little Brown Church, which will open early at 10am. You'll have from 11am until 4pm to visit the rest of the sites, within a few miles of the Little Brown Church. The keepsake booklet is packed with information, history, and photos. Register by May 1 to ensure a printed booklet. Digital booklets may be provided to registrants after May 1. Consider an extra donation to help us fund more San Leandro events. Thank you!
