If you've ever been curious about lawn bowling, this is the perfect event for you. Instructors will teach you how to bowl, and then you'll get to do it in great company!
$50 admission includes instruction on how to bowl, beverages, and snacks. The Hermosa Lawnbowling Club requests that attendees wear flat soled shoes and do not smoke at the venue.
All of the proceeds will go to the Leadership Hermosa Beach Hermosa Mariposa project.
Leadership has partnered with the South Bay Parkland Conservancy on the ongoing Hermosa Beach Greenbelt Trail Restoration Project. The goal of this project is to replace invasive ice plants and other monocultures along the Greenbelt with native plants to create pollinator gardens. While it is known for its greenery, the Greenbelt provides very little native habitat for birds, butterflies, and other pollinators.
In addition to increasing the biodiversity along the Greenbelt, these pollinator gardens are specifically engineered to support local populations of critically endangered species of butterfly like the Monarch and the El Segundo Blue. The El Segundo Blue Butterfly is of particular importance because only a few isolated populations remain in the region. The long-term goal of the Greenbelt Trail Restoration Project is to plant enough pollinator gardens along the Greenbelt to create a corridor of connectivity between populations of the El Segundo Blue Butterfly in El Segundo and Redondo, improving the long term outlook of the species.
