A portion of art sale proceeds will be donated to JLSD. Inspired by Classic Art, Sculpture and Mythology. Alkaaby weaves a touch of magic with his textural brushwork, muted tones, and dreamlike compositions of pure color. The uninhibited release of creation through paint allows Alkaaby to communicate the freedom of expression that he had been seeking. His passion for life and love, which in turn creates a rhythmic tone throughout the work. Viewers can follow the movement of one state of mind to the next within this collection. Alkaaby explores the spectrum of emotion and intrigue. Creating his abstractions through an unconscious, automatic sense reminiscent of the Surrealists of the 1910’s and 20’s. As a result, many people resonate deeply with when viewing his work for the first time. Khalid Alkaaby was born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq, where he was classically trained at the Art Institute. The emphasis the school placed on watercolor studies gave Alkaaby a firm foundation for his oil paintings, and he continued on to work as an artist and ran a successful art studio for some time. He immigrated to the United States and began a new life in San Diego, California where he now lives and works as a professional artist. This evening is sure to impress among the beautiful backdrop of the historic Junior League of San Diego headquarters house.
