Description

The monarch butterfly is a very special little creature. It does something no other insect in the world does - migrates over 2500 miles to a place it has never been before and will never return. And that is just one cool thing about this bug... But this little guy is in jeopardy. Mankind has infringed on its territory in a variety of ways and forced it to become endangered. Fortunately, people are starting to notice and are looking for ways to stop this progression. And we're here to help! Did you know that milkweed is the ONLY plant monarch caterpillars eat? That it is the only plant monarch butterflies will lay their eggs on? Do you know what a nectar plant is and which ones provide the best nourishment? Come discover which annuals, perennials & native plants are best suited for monarch habitat and the perfect plants to attract monarchs to your garden or container. You'll learn about Monarch Waystations and how easy it is to qualify, register your garden and acquire a Waystation certificate and plaque you can post in your garden to show your support in protecting and conserving monarch habitat. You will have access to a selection of helpful handouts, plant lists, resources and even some of our favorite plants. An assortment of monarch garden goodies will be available for purchase for those who may be interested. In addition, you will learn about the monarchs lifecycle and migration phenomenon and hopefully, with the monarchs cooperation this Spring, there will be some samples of live caterpillars and chrysalid to view as well! We invite you to come learn about this special butterfly, but watch out, you may just become obsessed with this sweet little orange and black creature. We did. This class is taught by Amy Miller, owner of Trimbelle River Trading and The Monarch Project. For more information on monarchs, visit http://monarchprojects.com/
