Description

Please join us on Monday, April 24th, for our third day of advocacy for criminalized survivors in Oklahoma! HB 1639, Oklahoma's Domestic Abuse Survivorship Act has been scheduled for a floor vote on the Senate floor! We will be advocating for the retroactivity language of the bill. The retroactivity language will give incarcerated survivors a chance for resentencing. Oklahoma Appleseed Center for Law and Justice was inspired by the numerous survival stories of incarcerated women from Mabel Bassett and Eddie Warrior Correctional Centers. Without these tragic stories we believe that this collective movement, as well as HB 1639 would not be what it is today. It is imperative that the incarcerated survivors receive sentence relief. We Can’t Leave Our Women Behind. HB 1639 needs to be voted on the Senate Floor by April 26th. There is still a chance that we can add the retroactivity language of the bill, once we are in the senate. Join us in the Supreme Court Hallway on the 2nd floor at the Oklahoma State Capitol from 9-3 on April 25th to make your voices heard for all survivors. #WeCantLeaveThemBehind #DontLeaveOklahomasDaughtersBehind
