Description
Join us to learn how to flex your ally muscle and learn more about pronouns and why they matter. What is allyship? “Active support for the rights of a minority or marginalized group without being a member of it”. This workshop will focus on the fundamentals of gender/gender expression, sexuality, pronoun use and how their perception can change your behavior. First grounding in ourselves, then understanding others, and finally putting it into practice. Regardless of where you are in your understanding of the complexity of gender and how it impacts our world, this will be a welcoming space to ask questions and grow together! ***** Meet the Guest Speaker: River Teslar River Teslar (she/her) is GSBA’s Business Training Specialist. She received an AA in music from Navarro College and spent four years as a pharmacy technician. She is a spirited advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and looks forward to bringing her warmth and encouraging nature to business education and growth. As a trans woman with a background in advocacy and community work she is excited to put those skills to use for the GSBA. River was also nominated for the Washington Economic Development Assocations Award for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion this year! A consummate food enthusiast, she spends her free time finding new restaurants and cooking with her partner, as well as performing at open mics, hopping between her favorite local haunts, and enjoying walking around the beautiful East Capitol Hill neighborhood. River hopes to become a small business owner herself someday and host community events and organizing. About The GSBA: Established in 1981, GSBA is Washington State’s LGBTQ+ and allied chamber of commerce and is the largest of its kind in North America. We represent over 1,400 small business, corporate, and nonprofit members who share the values of promoting equality and diversity in the workplace. GSBA proudly serves as a connector across the region, bringing the community together through business while advocating for civil rights and small business, promoting LGBTQ+ tourism through Travel Out Seattle, and investing in the next generation of leaders through the GSBA Scholarship Fund. Gender equality, generational differences, technological advancements – these are just a few of the issues that business leaders of today are facing. The World Trade Center Seattle partners with other local organizations to create educational programs centered around the difficult, sensitive and important issues in our community. As our country becomes divided, we strive to find common ground in order to support the future. So join us in raising the question – Can We Talk?
