Description

Kappa Eta Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. was chartered on September 27, 1986 at Hofstra University, Hempstead, New York. Our founders were the late Dana Y. Lopez and Glovinia P. Wilkinson, who saw a need for a chapter to serve residents living in the Nassau and Suffolk county communities of Long Island, New York. Kappa Eta was the 57th chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority and there were 27 charter members. In 1988, the chapter held its first Scholarship and Awards Luncheon in honor of Leota P. Brown, eighth national president of Chi Eta Phi Sorority and the mother of Kappa Eta Chapter Co-founder, Dana Y. Lopez. On October 29, 1993 Kappa Eta charted its first beta chapter, Kappa Eta Beta Chapter (undergraduate nursing students) at Molloy College, Rockville Centre, NY. The chapter was re-activated with nine sorors and fraters in April 2011. Kappa Eta Chapter is incorporated with status as a 501c (3) organization. Kappa Eta provides service to the community at no charge. Community service activities include, but are not limited to, consumer health information, career development, monthly blood pressure screenings, Chi Care Calls to the sick and shut in, services to the homeless, and mentoring/education to pregnant and parenting teenage girls. Kappa Eta has provided workshops granting continuing education units to health care professionals. In keeping with our purpose of ongoing education, Kappa Eta Chapter has donated more than $85,000 in scholarships to student nurses.
