Description

We've been building this community and it feels more like family than ever!!! Invite the CUZZINs you've made and the Cousin life gave you. The Poetry Potluck truly is a living activation and a "Gathering for the Art of Community". The poetry is what brings us all together but it's the connections, the random conversations, and the ever-growing community that keeps people coming back and bring those closest along with them. The Family Room: This space is meant to activate the child in us. The part of us that imagines and asks questions. This is like you and your favorite CUZZINs at Grandma's house except you can touch everything and even eat in here. This space is meant for exploration, learning, discovery, free-thought and open-dialogue. Here is a library. It is a theater, an art gallery, and even a museum at times. And we don’t put plastic on anything here. The Backyard: This space is meant to mimic the traditional Black family Cookout. There are blankets laid out and games on the lawn. Someone is mixing drinks and people are playing cards. This is where we break bread at the Family Table. This is where the Creatives take the stage. And this space is facilitated by the MC. Here's what you need to know... 1. This is a community gathering with a focus on Poets in particular but open to all Creatives and appreciators. (not particularly for children) 2. EACH PERSON MUST register via Eventbrite in advance or on site. 3. EACH PERSON MUST bring a contribution (dish or dessert store bought or homemade) for the "Family Table" or a bottle (spirits) for the bar (no more than 2ppl to an item). *Please follow attached FDA recommended food safety guidelines. *Other Contributions: Beer, Case of Water, Family Size Non-Alcoholic beverage -Please bring dishes in sealed/covered containers -When you arrive at the Poetry Potluck you will be given labels to place on your dish to help identify any potential allergens -Parking directly behind ROOTS BlackHouse 2.0 and in the lot behind Burger King (near 54th St & 6th Pl) .  Please do not block the homes, driveways,  or parking spaces of our neighbors. We want to be respectful of the residents and homeowners.
