Description
Joanna has requested that donations collected during her talk be sent to Tigard Friends Food Pantry. Joanna Wilder (she/her) is a birth keeper, serving birthing folks in a variety of birth spaces. She is a CPM and a CNM (both kinds of midwives). She began in 1991 by serving as a nurse in a midwife-staffed urban hospital in downtown Phoenix for 3 years, then with CNMs at a birth center for 14 years. Joanna then started her midwifery journey via an apprenticeship route for her CPM (Certified Professional Midwife). She had a small solo home birth practice in an immigrant neighborhood in Phoenix for 8 years. In 2018 this desert girl transplanted to the Pacific Northwest for a season of change, back to her childhood roots in Oregon. She has been taught as a clinical adjunct faculty at George Fox University and Linfield University. Joanna is completing a DNP at Frontier Nursing University because she loves teaching. Joanna is currently birthing a business. Mariposa Midwifery LLC is located in downtown Tigard at Byenveni Baby. Mariposa focuses on integrative gynecology (well-person care, contraceptives, pelvic health needs). Transformative pregnancy care means unhurried visits, and birth in the home setting. Joanna is a mom of six by birth and adoption and is married to one bold man. Teens still at home means life is full of late-night talks and spontaneous mom-dates. She has spent the last two decades untangling her childhood story. She has a passion for trauma-informed care, particularly the role of birth in healing trauma. Joanna learned Spanish “de la gente”, which means funny mistakes can still pop up to keep her humble. Her husband grew up in Bolivia, two kids are Mexican American, and other family members live in Argentina. 30 years doing community development in an inner-city Phoenix immigrant neighborhood wove a deeply textured tapestry in this gringuita.
