Session Description:
Emily Cherkin, MEd., The Screentime Consultant, is coming to Charles Wright! Emily spent 12years teaching in NWAIS schools in Seattle, where she watched the rise of both social media among students and technology use in schools. Emily uses the responses from a survey of our parents to help us better understand the current screentime challenges and concerns facing our school community.
This session is geared for adults parenting students in grades 5-12.
Speaker Bio:
Emily Cherkin, M.Ed., is a nationally recognized consultant who takes a tech-intentional™ approach to addressing screentime challenges. A former middle school teacher, she has been featured for her work on screentime in The New York Times, The Washington Post, on “The Today Show” (twice), “Good Morning, America,” Australia’s “Weekend Today,” and numerous parenting websites, blogs, and podcasts. She recently testified before the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine about children and technology. Emily offers private 1:1 consulting, parent courses, professional development training, and personalized school presentations built on her tech-intentional™ approach. As a parent to a 11- and 14-year-old, Emily understands the real-life challenges of parenting in the digital age. She is also the co-founder of The Student Data Privacy Project, an activist group fighting to protect student data in schools. Her book will be available in January 2024.
