Description
This Master Exercise gives our seasoned CERTs an opportunity to refresh their skills and work together with our newly-trained CERTs. From moulage to triage, you’ll experience it all. This is a unique opportunity to practice your skills in a realistic full-scale exercise. Please register for ONE of the following roles: victim actor or responder. The exercise is conducted in a no-fault learning environment where capabilities and processes are continuously evaluated. The scenario(s) are realistic and event simulation provides sufficient detail to allow players to react to information and situations as they are presented, as if the simulated incident were real. The exercise will be held rain or shine. This event is open to individuals 18 years old or older, 16 or 17 years old with written parent/guardian permission, or 13 to 15 years old along with the active participation of a parent/guardian. Minimum age: 13 Fairfax County CERTs should register through VMS. The Eventbrite registration form is for victim-actors or CERT responders from other jurisdictions. This event is sponsored by the Fairfax CERT Association, a 501(c)(3) organization. Should you wish to support this or future events, please visit https://fairfaxcertassociation.org/ for more information. For Responders: You must have graduated from a Basic CERT class. If you are still in training, please register to be a Victim-Actor, which is an excellent learning opportunity! For Victim-Actors: Victim-actors should be willing to have moulage make-up and/or appliances applied. Wikipedia tells us that "Moulage is the art of applying mock injuries for the purpose of training emergency response teams and other medical and military personnel. Moulage may be as simple as applying pre-made rubber or latex "wounds" to a healthy "patient's" limbs, chest, head, etc., or as complex as using makeup and theatre techniques to provide elements of realism (such as blood, vomitus, open fractures, etc.) to the training simulation. Because of the dusty, dirty, maybe damp, place, applying of make-up, wound treatment, etc., please consider wearing old clothes that you do not mind getting dirty or torn. And, please, dress for the weather, as you will be outside much of the time: rain or shine, warm or cold. All victim-actors and non-Fairfax County CERT responders must sign a waiver and register through Eventbrite. For our participants, a modest lunch will be provided by the Fairfax County CERT Association, disaster dining at its best! Schedule: 0730-0800 - Victim Actor check in 0830-0900 - Responder check in Late arrivals will not be admitted after 9:00 am. Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event? Yes, all participants (or the parent) should have a picture ID. Participants must be at least 13 years old because this site is used for rescue training and has inherent hazards including, but not limited to sharp objects, uneven terrain, insects, tripping hazards, etc. Any participant under 16 must be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian. Are there any health restrictions for participants? If you have any ailments, medical, physical, psychological, are under a physician’s care, should be, or have been within the last month, or just not 100%, we ask that you look after number one and sit this one out. We typically plan a master exercise biannually and do not want any injuries, so when in doubt, sit it out and join us at the next exercise when you’re at your best. I heard that there is a warning about dust? Due to the possible dust conditions in the training exercise areas, those with asthma, respiratory conditions, allergies or other associated ailments need to be aware of this situation and make the decision to participate or not. If you have any doubts, we ask that you look after number one and sit this one out. EVERYONE must properly wear N95 masks when operating inside of the buildings at the training facility; NO exceptions. Masks will be provided. ALL victim actors, responders and most staff will be exposed to these conditions and expectations during this drill. What can/can't I bring to the event? ALL PERSONS coming on the site (regardless of your role) must wear flat shoes that completely enclose the foot - No sandals, Tevas, Keens, Crocs, high heels, pumps etc. - Persons arriving without proper footwear will be denied access to the site - No EXCEPTIONS ALL PERSONS coming on the site (regardless of your role) must wear long pants - No capris, leggings, shorts or skirts. Anyone arriving without proper attire will be denied access to the site. Safety is paramount! We also recommend that you bring a water bottle, or some other water storage device. We will have drinking water available on site. Bring sunscreen and bug repellent, and whatever outerwear is appropriate for the weather. CERT Responders - You may bring any resources you like, however they will need to be carried in and kept with you during the exercise. Proper PPE is required. Victim Actors - We recommend some form of entertainment during the periods of waiting - a book, an iPod, a well charged phone.... it can get muddy/cold/wet so a word of caution. Can I register for multiple roles in the exercise? Each participant can register for a single ticket type - either Responder or Victim Actor. Where can I contact the organizer with any questions? Wayne Vick, CERT Training Officer, [email protected] Is my registration/ticket transferrable? No, because of the need for accountability. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? Yes, this will allow us to expedite checking into the secured site. The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay? No. Again, it's an accountability issue. This is a secured training site.
