StorySlam Oakland Presents: Where there's a will, there's a way A Night of True Stories and Good Food Doors open: 6:30 PM. Stories will begin at 7:30. Think of a story from your life when you persevered by sheer will. You overcame some obstacle, or some person who said you couldn't do it. They said it was impossible, you said, Watch Me. Maybe you were the one who thought it couldn't be done -- but then you found a way. Maybe you tried everything and the most random thing worked. Tell us that story. Big or small, as long as it's 5 minutes or less. Rules: Put your name in the hat for a chance to tell. Stories must be true, about YOU, and 5 minutes or less. We'll have a timer to keep you on track. No reading or notes allowed. You'll tell it like you're telling friends around a dinner table. Or just listen and laugh. We'll have time to hear about 8 to 10 open-mic storytellers. (Note: not all stories may be funny. Sometimes the struggle is real!) Our featured storyteller for April is the award-winning David Rodriguez. MORE DETAILS: The Sound Room is great for date night.The roomy interior space has uncrowded tables and chairs for dining and watching, great lighting, and a friendly low stage. $10 minimum - There is a delightful menu of light meals, snacks, desserts; select wines, craft beers and great non-alcoholic drinks, too. We ask that each person buys at least $10 worth of drinks or food to support the Sound Room. Their generosity is the reason we can do this show. Doors open early, at 6:30 so you can pick your seats and order some food and drink. There will be one intermission. More drinks! StorySlam is suitable for adults, and as we can't control the content of the stories, is not recommended for young children. There won't be judging or voting at this show. No pressure! Just a good time. Selected storytellers from the open-mic portion of the shows will be invited back for a 'Glam Slam' later in the year.
