Description

What is Great Start?Cadet Great Start is geared towards new and prospective youth (ages 12-18) in the Cadet Program. Participants learn about all the exciting opportunities with the program and also receive training in: drill, customs & courtesies, aerospace, physical fitness, uniforms and how to wear them, and finally preparation for their first promotion and an orientation flight. This is a five-week program, plus one Saturday field day. This is the best start a cadet can get to starting off their cadet career on the best foot. If you are interested in learning more about our program, visit our website http://www.iawg.cap.gov and register here for further details. New cadets are only accepted a few times per year. Parents, you are encouraged to attend the first meeting to gather all of the pertinent information about your child's career in Civil Air Patrol. We will cover everything from activities, benefits and costs. Please only register tickets for those 12-18 who are interested in joining. There is limited space and tickets are limited. Civil Air Patrol is an auxiliary of the Air Force and they allow our cadets the honor of wearing their uniforms. The wear of the uniform is a reflection on the Air Force and it's to be respected and honored. One of the biggest hurdles a cadet faces is the switch from street clothing to proper wearing of the uniform. We found that by asking the cadet to make this transition right away in the Great Start Program helps them get used to the idea of taking pride in how they present themselves. Before the end of the Great Start program, every cadet will partake of a uniform inspection. Why are we going to Atlantic? This Great Start program has been started to reach the youth in the Harlan Area for the Soutwest Iowa Composite Squadron. We will be alternating 2 weeks out of the month to attend the Atlantic location's meetings as a squadron.
