Description
HONORING OUR HEROES- HEADSTONE CLEANING FOR MEMORIAL DAYTo pay our respects and honor our Veterans laid to rest at the Anchorage Memorial Cemetery, our Nuvision Alaska team is partnering with American Legion Post 1 to clean headstones in time for Memorial Day. It it our goal to acknowledge the true meaning of Memorial Day, which is to pay our respects to those who sacrificed their lives while defending our nation. We are asking for our members and the community to come together to support this project. Hundreds of gravesites are in desperate need of maintenance and many headstone markers are not visible, as they are overgrown with sod. We hope to pay tribute to these soldiers by making their names be seen and recognized. The Legion's Auxiliary and the VFW will be placing American Flags and Crosses at each gravesite. Our volunteers will be placing a penny on each headstone to show our respect through the symbolism of that tradition. Leaving a penny means you visited to honor their service and family. This is a great opportunity to pay respects and to giveback to this Memorial Day weekend. You are welcome to bring your family or friends, the more volunteers we get, the larger impact we can make. Meet at the Legion to carpool at 9::00 AM or meet directly at the Veterans Tract at the cemetery at 9:30 AM. Veteran-owned businesses including Elevated Oats will be serving snacks and coffee throughout the day. Afterwards, we are inviting volunteers back to the Legion for a reception with complementary pizza and drinks. **We will have a limited of supply of tools on hand so please bring your yard tools if possible.**TOOLS TO BRING IF POSSIBLE: GlovesBoxcutters and carpet cutting toolsPruning sawsHand tools: trowels, pruners & cultivatorsClean spray bottles and water jugsScrub brushes and toothbrushes (natural or nylon bristles, NO plastic of metal)Wooden sticks: paint stir sticks, chopsticks, popsicle sticks (used to scrape debris from engravings) For any questions, please reach out to [email protected].
