David Gissen is a New York-based author, designer, and educator who works in architecture, landscape, and urban design.
David Gissen is the author of The Architecture of Disability - a work of history, theory, and memoir. He will be joined by Dr. Joel Sanders from Yale School of Architecture on the design of disability beyond accessibility and accommodations.
Dr. Gissen will offer a critical perspective on histories and futures of buildings, cities, and landscapes, and a starting point for a complete reshaping of how we view the development and creation of architecture in relation to diverse human experiences. The moderator of this talk, Dr. Joel Sanders, teaches design courses at Yale School of Architecture regarding neurodiversity, deaf and blind spaces, and gender diversity.
Dr. Gissen has been appointed as Eero Saarinen Visiting Professor of Architecture at Yale University, visiting professor of Historic Preservation at Columbia University, visiting professor of Architecture History in the Ph.D. program in the History, Theory, & Criticism of Architecture and Art at MIT; and Curator of Architecture and Design, The National Building Museum, Washington, DC
