Lorenz Clinic is excited to virtually host Dr. Dana Collins, Ph.D., for May Grand Rounds. This presentation will instruct clinicians on using mindfulness-based practices to increase their clients’ understanding of racial trauma and how it impacts them. Clinicians will learn how they can support their clients in using mindfulness-based practices to address symptoms of racial trauma. This presentation will engage the audience in experiential mindfulness practices, small and large group discussions, and will draw from relevant case examples. Learning Objectives: Participants will develop their understanding of how racial trauma manifests, particularly within the body. Participants will gain skills to help increase clients’ awareness of the impacts of racial trauma.Participants will learn strategies for engaging their clients in mindfulness-based practices. About the Presenter Dana L. Collins, Ph.D. (she/her/hers) is a counseling psychologist, mindfulness meditation teacher, writer, educator, and activist. She is on faculty in the Department of Family and Social Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center. Her work is deeply rooted in social justice values, and as a Black woman, she is committed to the empowerment of marginalized communities, addressing racial trauma, using mindfulness-based practices to work towards healing, and raising awareness about mental health and reducing stigma within Black and other communities of Color. Dr. Collins is originally from Oakland, CA, and is now based in Brooklyn, NY. She's the Immediate Past-President of the New York Association of Black Psychologists. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, and recent recipient of its Early Career Service Grant, and a recipient of a grant from its Action for Racial Justice and Equity Fund. With this funding, she is co-developing community-based interventions to address Black youths’ mental health concerns. She was also recently awarded a grant from the New York Office of Mental Health, with which she is co-developing a community-informed mental health anti-stigma toolkit and website for BIPOC communities in New York City. Location This is an in-person event held at Lorenz Clinic's Rosemount location to view the live webinar. Come meet our team and enjoy networking over light refreshments. Check-in starts at 9:30am and the presentation begins at 10:00am. Masking is currently optional at the clinic.
