Plein air painting workshop (4.5 hours each day) on Tuesday, May 2nd and Tuesday, May 30th from 8AM-12:30PM. NOTE: Masks are optional in this series when class is outside. When indoors, please wear a mask. This two-day workshop covers the following topics: plein air painting gear and how to pare it down to the essentials, identifying the right gear for you, and what you actually need. In addition, the workshop will cover how to make sense of and simplify the landscape, how to choose what to paint, how to create a good composition using the rule of shapes and directional lines, how to create a sense of space in your painting, and how to capture fleeting light. Class 1 on May 2nd : Meet at 8AM at the Bickford Outdoor Pavilion next to Artascope. Class 2 on May 30th: Meet at 8AM at the Yarmouth Boat Landing. $149 workshop fee does not include materials. A supply list can be found below the instructor bio. About the instructor: Deena S. Ball is a nationally renowned landscape painter known for her innovative use of watercolor in combination with a textured ground and specialized surfaces. She received her BA in Art history and Studio Art from Colby College in Waterville, Maine, and continued her studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Art and Tyler School of Art. Deena’s work is exhibited extensively throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, and can be found in issues of Watercolor Artist and the annual publications of the watercolor book, Splash.
