This event is an introduction to fly fishing and will focus on the educational aspect of getting started. Topics that will be covered include gear selection and setup, knot tying, fly selection based on entomology, casting, line management, reading the water, landing trout, and troubleshooting frequently encountered problems on the water to help you gain confidence and independence. If you have your own gear, please anticipate bringing boots, waders, fly rod, and reel. Borrowed gear - please let us know if you need to borrow gear ahead of the course by selecting the gear you would like to borrow at checkout. Participants should anticipate bringing sunhats, sunglasses (these are a must! Protect your eyes from both sun rays and hooks!) sunscreen, weather appropriate clothing, a notebook and pen, water bottles, and lunches. Note that the timing of the event might align with salmon pulses of the Yakima River, which result in higher than normal flows. All safety precautions will be taken while participants wade the river. Streamside Coven Co believes in using fly fishing to empower lives and help folks be their best selves. The education combines psychology, science, and nature to develop independent anglers. Scientifically backed teaching methods make sure that you learn quickly, retain the information, and are more likely to pursue fly fishing independently. So take your grandfather’s gatekept recreation and toss it in the river. We are here to break down barriers, push our own limits, and be our own heroes both on and off the river. --- All participants must sign the SheJumps Participant Waiver prior to participating in this event.
