Description

First Part of Tour: Northern State Hospital Buildings (no restrooms available until second part of tour) Tours will depart from Mystical Wares store in Mount Vernon, WA. They’ll last approximately 4 hours from the time guests board the Mystical Wares private tour bus to the time they’re returned to the store. (maximum of 19 guests per tour) Tour(s) will begin in the Mystical Wares parking lot where visitors are welcome to leave their vehicles. The bus will depart from Mount Vernon heading first to Northern State Hospital (located in Sedro-Woolley, WA) where we’ll drive through the still active hospital grounds. Once the bus arrives at the abandoned hospital buildings, you will have the option of remaining on the bus or departing to explore the outside of the nearby buildings. There are hundreds of missing or broken windows allowing you to peer through and take photos of the inside of many of the structures. Much of the equipment still remains in many of the rooms just as it was left. (45 minutes to explore) Note: None of the hospital buildings are safe to enter, nor are visitors allowed to. The Northern State Hospital grounds is on the National Register of Historic Places in the U.S. and has it’s own security on-site. During the second part of the tour at the farm, guests will have the opportunity to enter any of the over a dozen buildings & structures that remain. Additionally guests can explore the nearby paths that lead to other, often more dilapidated structures that are not as safe to enter (guests must return to bus by designated time). You’ll learn about not only some of the hospitals past uses, but how some of the buildings are currently being used today, which includes the housing of mentally ill inmates. Although you won’t be able to enter the secured buildings there are many opportunities to take picture of not only the outside but through many of the hundreds of available windows you can peer through. During the tour your tour guide Derek Condit (psychic/medium) will provide additional details/input he may receive while exploring either the hospital and/or farm buildings during the tour. Derek psychically (ESP/Telepathy) communicates daily with those that have passed over, also known as disincarnate entities or ghosts & spirits, it’s not uncommon for metaphysical communication to happen during tours. Second Part of Tour: Northern State Hospital Farm Grounds, Buildings & Cemetery (restrooms available) Next we’ll board the bus for a short 5 minute drive to the Northern State Hospital’s farm, farm buildings & cemetery area where it’s said 1,487 patients were buried between the years 1913 – 1972. When the bus arrives at the parking area (Northern State Recreational Area), guests will be able to depart the bus to enjoy a break at one of the many picnic benches or grassy areas provided (covered picnic tables/area available). Guests are welcome to bring their own food & drinks or enjoy the free snack pack that’s provided with the tour. (free snack packs contain: bottle of water, bag of chips, granola bar & candy or treat) After our lunch break (appx: 25 min), guests are welcome to remain at the park area and relax, where some of the dilapidated farm buildings are visible, or continue on with the walking guided tour of the buildings and grounds that remain of the hospitals farm. The distance from the picnic tables to where the farm buildings begin is about a 5 minute walk on a well maintained gravel path, with only one section of the path going up a short incline near the end. During this part of the tour Derek will remain open to psychic communication with any entities that may wish to communicate, which often happen during tours. The tour guides will also setup several paranormal communication tools that the guests are welcome to interact with or use to enhance their contact with any willing entities. Paranormal Tools Include: Ghost or Spirit Box (communication device entities can speak through) FLIR Camera (camera able to view heat signatures) Night Vision Monocular (used to see in complete darkness) Dowsing Rods & Pendulum (able to detect subtle energy) Geiger Counter (used to detect changes in environmental radiation levels) Audible EMF Meter (measures changes in electromagnetic fields) UltraHD 4K Video (record visible anomalies in HD video) Dicyanin Aura Goggles (detects auras/biofields of people & entities) Learn more or read full tour description: www.MysticalWares.com Short history of over 700 acre site: Once the largest facility for mentally ill people in Washington State, Northern State Mental Hospital was a town unto itself. The hospital was established in 1909 after the over-crowded conditions at Western State Hospital came under public criticism. Northern State’s grand opening happened in 1912. The hospital property also included it’s own farm which helped to provide food for the patients and staff. Most patients were buried in the asylum’s 1.5 acre plot. According to the hospital’s records, 1,487 bodies are buried on the grounds of Northern State Mental Hospital. Doctors at the hospital were know to perform lobotomies, electroshock therapy and other horrific ‘treatments’ on the patients/inmates. Lobotomies were a relatively common procedure in the 1930s through 50s, where doctors would drill a small hole through the skull and into the brain to cure various mental disorders. The procedure almost never worked and usually resulted in horrifying after effects. Suicide was not uncommon among the patients. There are even links to a secret U.S. government program called MKULTRA. Two other local mental asylum’s were overcrowded which lead to the building of Northern State Hospital by the Olmsted Brothers, a world-famous architectural firm known for designing New York’s Central Park. By 1953, the hospital’s population hit a peak of 2,700 people. The Washington State Legislature cut off funding to the asylum, and Northern State officially closed its doors in 1976. Over the years, the hospital became the subject of many ghost stories and legends, with many people claiming to have experienced paranormal activity within its walls. Here are a few of the most popular ghost stories associated with Northern State Hospital: The ghost of a nurse: Some people claim to have seen the ghost of a nurse walking the halls of the hospital. According to the legend, the nurse was a kind woman who worked at the hospital in the 1930s and 1940s. She died suddenly one night, and some people believe that she never left the hospital. The ghost of a patient: Many people claim to have seen the ghost of a patient wandering the halls of the hospital. According to the legend, the patient was a young woman who was admitted to the hospital in the 1950s. She died under mysterious circumstances, and her spirit is said to still haunt the hospital. The ghost of a doctor: Some people claim to have seen the ghost of a doctor walking the halls of the hospital. According to the legend, the doctor was a strict and unkind man who worked at the hospital in the 1920s and 1930s. He died of a heart attack in one of the hospital’s offices, and some people believe that his spirit still lingers in the building. The ghost of a child: There are several stories of a ghostly child playing in the hospital’s hallways. Some people believe that the child was a patient who died at the hospital, while others think that it might be the ghost of a child who lived in the nearby town.
