Spend two afternoons learning the traditional heritage skills of carding and spinning. This class is for beginners, and will be taught by Gerald Thibodeaux on the Saint Luc French Immersion and Cultural Campus in Arnaudville, Louisiana. Participants will begin with raw ginned brown cotton which they will learn to card into rolags. The rolags are used to spin to make thread which can be used for any number of crafts, such as knitting, crocheting, weaving, tatting, etc.
The two-day workshop is funded with support from the Louisiana Folklore Society, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Louisiana Division of the Arts and the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism. It is a free event, open to the public, but registration is an absolute, as the workshop is limited to 6 participants. Materials will be provided. Feel free to bring your favorite spinning wheel and carding paddles if you have them.
The workshop is also sponsored by Rotary Opelousas Sunrise/Saint Luc Satellite Club
