About this workshop: This workshop is geared to those who have a desire to grow a home vegetable garden but don’t know where to start. In partnership with Imago, this workshop will cover the basic steps in starting a vegetable garden. Topics of discussion will include: Different types of vegetable gardens (in-ground, raised beds, container) Site selection Soil preparation Seed and plant selection Sowing seeds/ planting transplants Garden care & maintenance Harvesting Insect & disease management Attendees will have an opportunity to participate in actual site/soil preparation and planting of various Summer and Fall crops onsite at Imago. About the teacher: Lynn Lorio (she/her) first developed a green thumb back in 2014 when she experimented with growing her first vegetable garden at home. To her delight, the garden was a success, and from there her love affair with plants grew - eventually leading her to pursue a degree in horticulture. Her career as a Horticulturist spans over 6 years working at places such as Cincinnati Parks, Green City Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, & Green City Resources. About Do It Yourself Darlin Workshops: All Do It Yourself Darlin Workshops are geared towards beginners, open to anyone age 16+, and taught by local Cincinnati craftspeople. DIYD is a program of the non-profit CDC Price Hill Will. All of DIYD’s funding comes from grants, sponsorships, donations, and workshop ticket sales.
