Description

The National Wildlife Federation and Environment and Climate Justice Committee of the Evansville NAACP invite you to a listening session to collect your input on your clean water and drinking water priorities for the Ohio River. Your input is important and will help shape a new clean water plan for the region, as well as target new federal investments to address environmental concerns. As we all know, there are still many communities that are dealing with serious threats to drinking water. We want to make sure local priorities and concerns are reflected in the plan. Please join us on Tuesday, May 9, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the C.K. Newsome Community Center, located at100 E Walnut St, Evansville, IN 47713. We’ll be hosting a community conversation to discuss clean water priorities for Evansville residents and how they can be prioritized in for a new plan to protect and restore the waters in the 14-state Ohio River region. Dinner will be served. Attendees will receive a gift card for $75 to compensate them for their time. RSVPs are required. The listening session in Evansville is one of many being hosted around the region so that people can have input into a new regional plan to restore and protect the waters of the 14-state Ohio River region – and to get federal investment in their communities to address environmental problems. The restoration plan, once complete, will be delivered to Congress and Biden Administration. The goal is for the federal government to implement the plan with new annual investments to address long-standing problems, such as sewage contamination, toxic pollution, inadequate water infrastructure, mine waste, run-off, flooding, habitat loss, and other threats. This is an opportunity we don’t want to miss: Every year the federal government invests in programs to protect and restore our nation’s great waters – including the Chesapeake Bay, Puget Sound, Gulf Coast, and Great Lakes. We want to add the waters of the 14-state Ohio River region to that list. The community listening sessions are sponsored by the Ohio River Basin Alliance and National Wildlife Federation. Please join us on Tuesday, May 9, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the C.K. Newsome Community Center, 100 E Walnut St, Evansville, IN 47713. We’ll have a lively conversation. And your voice is vital to that conversation. What clean water issues are you most concerned about in your community? Are there problems with clean drinking water in your community or region?Would you like to see more done to address problems like flooding, toxic pollution, sewage contamination, and mine waste? What solutions should be prioritized?Join the conversation and have your voice heard. During the community listening session, you will hear about the restoration planning process and have the opportunity to provide input into the regional plan.
