Join us for a day of celebration honoring the Yoruba deities Olókun & Yemonja. 12:30-4, Open Beachfront, Shrineroom, How to propitiate Olókun and Yemọja, Sacred Women's space with Óríṣá Iko, Óríṣá processional, drum and dance party, ($16)There will be vendors, African drumming, dancing, a traditional processional, and more followed by The After Party, with traditional Yoruba, Afro-House, and Afrobeats music provided by DJ Ron Trent and DJ Joe Claussell. #olokunyemonjafestival #afterparty A divine shrine room, celebration, discussion, vendors, procession, dance and drum party for the Orisa in Diasporic and Oyo, Nigerian styles . Special Guests Kolapo Kólápo Abímbọ́lá (The Ajagunnà Ògún Àgbáyé) President of Ifá University, Kọ́lá Abímbọ́lá, is a Professor of Philosophy (Howard University) and studied the Ifá Literary Corpus as an apprentice under Wándé Abímbọ́lá from 1969 to 2000, and Babalọlá Adébóyè Ifátóògùn from 1982 to 2000. He undertook his Ph.D. studies in Philosophy of Science under John Worrall at the London School of Economics and Political Science and a second Ph.D. in the Law of Evidence and Criminal Justice under C. John Miller at the University of Birmingham. He has taught at Seattle University, Haverford College, Temple University, and the University of Leicester School of Law. Kola is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Forensic Research and Criminology. He was President of the International Society for African Philosophy and Studies from 2006 to 2010 and a British Council Commonwealth Academic Scholar from 1989 to 1992. Onifade Olowu Our Master of Ceremonies is Baba Onifade Olowu. He is a Marine scientist, Babalawo, and Olókun priest who has a B.A. in biogeology and ecology and worked as a junior marine scientist. He later went on to become a United Nations Fellow for Seafloor Benthic-ecology. He also has an M.S. in environmental science education and an M.A. in education administration and supervision. He was a school principal for 16 years and founded one of the first elementary charter schools in New York City. In addition to being the festival emcee, he will also give a presentation on Olókun. This is where he will delve into our relationship to the ocean, by comparing the deep sea from an environmental science perspective, with ways of understanding life that emanate from West African traditional systems of knowledge.
