Chattanooga native Joseph Decosimo has been interested in the fiddle and banjo traditions of Tennessee since childhood. His focus is on the music of the Cumberland Plateau, southeast Tennessee, and western North Carolina. Early on, he sought out the older generation of players in the region. He has performed with Tennessee fiddlers Clyde Davenport, Charlie Acuff, Bob Townsend and Mike Bryant. Joseph has taught and performed at the Augusta Heritage Center, the Berkeley Old Time Music Convention, and the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes in Port Townsend. His latest recording, While You Were Slumbering, was released in November 2022. It takes its title from a regional version of the ballad “Man of Constant Sorrow."
