Description
Have you ever wanted to wield a dagger like your favorite rogue from books, video games, movies, or TV shows? Want to learn how medieval fighters used knives? Then this event is for you!! In this introductory workshop you will learn the fundamentals of traditional medieval knife defense, taught by Historical European Martial Arts Instructor Eric Lowe as well as senior students from Swordwind Historical Swordsmanship. All gear will be provided! All you need to do is wear comfortable clothes that allow for a free range of movement (i.e.: gym/workout clothes, or loose-fitting jeans. So long as you can move easily and feel comfortable it's A-OK with us!). If you’ve got a belt, you’ll want to bring it, but it’s not necessary for the workshop. Please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before the start of class to allow time for finding the meeting location and signing a liabily waiver What will this workshop cover? We will start the class with a short warm-up followed by an introduction game. Then we will go over dagger safety and how to hold and grip a medieval fighting knife properly before moving into learning a fun, flashy, historically accurate, and deadly (if we weren't wearing safety gear) sequence of dagger moves. At the end of class you'll show off what you've learned by striking one of our instructors (which will also be a great opportunity for videos or photos). We will have breaks for water and stretching out sore muscles throughout the course. There will be time after class to discuss Historical Martial Arts and other questions you may have! This event is open to EVERYONE! Men, women, masc, femme, LGBTQ+. Our shield wall was made for all. Children 12 and up are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. This event is for people of all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels. Our daggers weigh less than a pound. So you need have no fear of the strength requirements for this workshop. You’re fit enough to begin training! For more information about Swordwind, our classes, our instructors and other events check out our website at: www.swordwind.org or follow us on Facebook!
