Description

On Saturday, May 20th 5:30- 8:30pm Social Venture Partners Minnesota will be hosting a "Gather with a Purpose" Dinner where we will be discussing the state of the Foster Care system. It will be an intimate dinner with time for us to dig into this topic. We will have some knowledgeable local experts at the dinner as well as people that are simply interested in the topic. We are asking for a suggested donation of $50- $150 to help cover costs for the dinner and support the community leaders who will be joining us. There have been some 'wins' lately for Foster youth in Minnesota such as the Fostering Independence Higher Education Grants bill that was passed a few years ago. But youth in the child welfare system and those aging out of the system remain at risk for some negative outcomes such as low graduation rates, housing instability, and poor health outcomes. We will have a discussion on what is being done and what could be done to reform the system, make broad systems change, and consider whether the system should be abolished. We will have guests from Foster Advocates as well as Connections to Independence that both work with Foster youth and those who have aged out of the system. Both organizations are SVP Investee organizations and have been in multi-year partnerships with us. There will be two pre-reads for the night that we will send you once you register. Accommodations and Accessibility: We strive to reduce barriers to participation in our events so they are accessible to all who wish to attend.
