Join Friends of the Chemung River Watershed on a guided paddle on the Chemung River from Big Flats to Elmira!  Enjoy an easy 9-mile guided float with Chemung River Friends and Endless Mountain Outfitters. This easy float on calm water is a great way to enjoy the beautiful river scenery, learn some river history, improve your paddling skills, get some fresh-air exercise and reenergize your spirit before the start of the workweek.  Paddlers can bring kayaks or canoes or rent them from Endless Mountain Outfitters. Ticket prices are based on your kayak needs. Shuttle service is included in the ticket price.  The trip is limited to 25 paddlers of all abilities and experiences, on water with a few ripples, but no rapids – with several shallow areas where paddlers may have to exit their boats and drag them through the low water. Our experienced guides make the trips safe, educational, and fun. The river averages 2- to 3-miles-per-hour. Along the way we talk about river history, the water cycle, river plants and wildlife and threats to our clean water. Paddlers are encouraged ask questions, share their experiences and river stories, and discover how our waterways can be used for recreation, education, and a commune with nature. You are purchasing your event ticket (registration fee), which does not include shuttle service, kayak rental, or tour. The registration fee is $25 per person and space is limited. Meet at the Grove Street Boat Launch in Elmira at 2:00pm. where you will unload your boat, load it on a bus trailer, board the bus and ride to Fitch’s Bridge Boat Launch in Big Flats, where you unload your boat, get in the river and paddle back to your vehicles at Grove Street. Every paddler must wear a buckled life vest during the trip. All children, 14 and under, must be accompanied by an adult. The trips are not recommended for children 6 or younger. No pets, no smoking, no alcohol, and no fishing during the paddles. The trips are done rain or shine and only canceled due to hazardous conditions (e.g. high water, lightning, etc.). The Grove Street Boat Launch is located at the southern end of Grove Street (off West Water Street) in downtown Elmira. Grove Street goes over the flood levee and ends at the boat launch. Fitch’s Bridge Boat Launch is located near the intersection of Routes 225 and 352 in the town of Big Flats adjacent to Fitch’s Bridge, which spans the Chemung River.
