Zach’s a 31year old Army Veteran, loving husband and father of twins, was diagnosed in December of2021 with bronchitis. After no improvement additional testing was done. The results showed that Zach hadan enlarged heart. After more testing Zach was transferred to Hershey Medical Center for furtherevaluation. It was there he was diagnosed with Cardiogenic Shock and needed a lifesaving deviceimplanted to help his heart work.
After complications in August 2022, Zach’s team at Hershey admitted him once again, and he was placedon the heart transplant list. It was then that the long wait began for finding a donor.
On Friday, February 3, 2023 Zach and his wife Lakan received the call that a heart became available. OnFebruary 4, 2023 Zach underwent his transplant surgery and received his new heart. Zach was dischargedfrom Hershey Medical Center on February 20, 2023 and reunited with his family and friends!
Unfortunately, the family took a major financial hit while going through all of this. Prior to beginning thisjourney, Zach and his father had a family mechanic business - which ended up needing to be sold whileZach stayed in the hospital. Lakan, Zach’s wife, took on the task of being the sole provider for their familywith two young children. As you can imagine, the bills started to come in and they are mounting.
