Description

The past few months in Israel-Palestine have seen a government coup designed to make Israel more authoritarian and theocratic, unprecedented pro-democracy protests, and intensified violence. Army-backed settler pogroms against Palestinians and a realignment of Palestinian armed resistance followed by security forces violence in the Al Aqsa Mosque, brought the entire region into turmoil. How are democracy and the protests connected to the occupation? Where is the far-right government going with its attack on the courts? Why should this concern people in the U.S.? And what's to be done about it all? Join us for an evening with Haggai Matar, an award-winning journalist and the executive director of +972 Magazine and co-director of Local Call (שיחה מקומית), in conversation with Dr. Smadar Ben-Natan, a law professor and veteran Israeli human rights lawyer. Together, we will learn and think about these questions, and support independent Israeli and Palestinian journalists on the frontlines of the struggle.
