A conversation and book signing celebrating the publication of Seven Days in Venice with author Gianmaria Donà dalle Rose, featuring an introduction by Charles Tolbert, President of Save Venice; a conversation with artist Judi Harvest; and selected readings by actor and model Shu Q. Seven Days in Venice takes us on an intimate journey through a unique city, bringing its past to life and musing on its present. Gianmaria Donà dalle Rose grew up in Venice, playing as a child in the narrow streets and tiny campielli, freely wandering the city. As an adult, spending time between Milan and Venice, he continued his wanderings, walking the calli without …a reason, a destination or even a will. It was rather a feeling, a detail, a hint of something. I would follow an instinct… We are invited to join the author as he meanders through this miraculous place quarter by quarter, joining him in an artistic stroll as he explores hidden corners and alleyways, small squares and local winebars. Full of personal memories and anecdotes, he is accompanied by the presence of the many illustrious foreigners who have lived in or visited Venice, from Titian to Turner, Byron to Proust, Stravinsky and Wagner as well as both Stalin and Churchill. To Gianmaria, Venice is a state of being. If you already love this city, unique among cities, this book will make you fall in love yet again, and if you have never been, you will yearn to be enveloped in its magic. Gianmaria Donà dalle Rose comes from an ancient and aristocratic Venetian family that produced three doges of La Serenissima, the Republic of Venice. From 1981 through the mid-90s he held management positions at Procter & Gamble, McKinsey and Gruppo Rizzoli Corriere della Sera. For the next 22 years he was President and Managing Director of Fox Italy and Spain, and since 2017 he has been President of the International Film and Video Association (IVF). He is passionate about the city of his birth and its history, and his first book, L'Antipapa Veneziano, vita del Doge Leonardo Donà (Milan: Giunti, 2019) chronicled his ancestor, the 90th doge of Venice, who reigned from 1606 to 1612. Charles Tolbert has an illustrious career as an intellectual property/entertainment and business attorney in New York and New Jersey. He is a Trustee of Adelphi University, a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences and President of the prestigious organization Save Venice, dedicated to preserving the artistic heritage of Venice, Italy. Judi Harvest is a successful interdisciplinary artist whose body of work includes sculpture, painting, and video. She splits her time between New York and Venice and has exhibited widely in both the United States and Europe. She appears in the book Seven Days in Venice. Shu Q is a Canadian actor and model who works globally in high-profile campaigns for Samsung and Abercrombie and Fitch, among many others. He was most recently in the feature film Smile (2021).
