Join us on May 21st for another Most Awesome Brew Ride! For the first time, we will venture north on the Fox River Trail from D and G Brewing in St. Charles to Blue Raptor Tap House in South Elgin and back. Also new for this ride, we will have two route options, a 15-mile ride directly to Blue Raptor and back plus an optional 5 mile loop on the trail to the trestle just south of Elgin with a turn-around at the turn-about. Pro tip: If you take the optional loop and bike fast enough you might be able to stop at Blue Raptor both out AND back! Most of this route is bike trail and what roads you will be on have very little traffic. There are a couple challenging hills though, so we urge you to maintain control on the downhills and warn people behind you if you need to jump off and walk up the few uphills. There is no shame in walking. We will head out of D&G straight through the neighboring parking lot to the trestle bridge, cross the bridge and head up the steep hill leading away from the river. If you choose to, you can bike through Pottawatomi Park (be careful of other park-goers) but you won’t avoid that steep up-hill away from the river no matter which way you choose. Once up the steep hill, you will head north through a quiet neighborhood to catch up with the Fox River Trail. Follow the Fox River Trail into South Elgin. Cross the bridge, loop under the bridge, follow the trail just a little bit more then take a hard right to Blue Raptor Tap House. If you are doing the extra loop, just continue north on the trail until you come to a trestle with a round-about. Turn at the round-about and head back down the trail to Blue Raptor Tap House. We will have route arrows out for you to follow also. D and G will be open around 10 a.m. in case anyone needs to use the facilities before their ride. Riders will head out in intervals starting at 10:30 am. We will enjoy a selection of offerings from Blue Raptor’s tap list for a while then head back to D&G for more refreshments and food. Blue Raptor does need us to head toward home no later than 1:30 as they have a private event in the afternoon. Plan your ride accordingly. Registration for our Spring of 2023 Most Awesome Brew Ride is $25. For that fee you will get a planned and marked route, route maps and sag support. You will also get one free beer ticket from each brewery (additional beers and food purchases will be up to you), a water bottle and a $20 gift card from The Bike Rack. You can also pre-purchase a ride t-shirt for $15 before the day of the ride. Ride shirts can also be bought day-of the event for $20 both before and after the ride at D and G. Registration is limited to 150 people so sign up now to reserve your space for a fun day of riding. Most Awesome Brew Ride is a Rain-or-Shine event. Dress according to the weather.
