Description

The Institute for Public Service Reporting hosts an interactive gallery, “Look Back to Live Ahead: A Civil Wrongs Exhibit,” to acknowledge the injustices of the Memphis Massacre in 1866 while educating about themes that are still active within our community today. The Institute is a professionally staffed newsroom housed within the Department of Journalism and Strategic media at the University of Memphis. They handle investigative journalism while providing hands-on training to students. We are partnering with Ephraim Urevbu, artist and owner of Urevbu Contemporary, to inspire the public to use art and history to fuel social change in our current climate. Urebvu has a series entitled “The Naked Truth” that is inspired by inequalities and racial strife within the United States that will serve as the backdrop for this exhibit.
