Description
The Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce that the CPMCC is now open to the community at large! The CPMCC is honored to be open for the first time during a Chicano Park Day on April 22, 2023 while commemorating 53 years of resilience since the land take over. After years of grassroot organizing by the Board of Directors, the Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center’s (CPMCC) building is now open as of October 8, 2022. The CPMCC has served as an educational and cultural hub by providing resources, programming, and care to the community since its inception in 2015. The CPMCC has marked a revolutionary impact on the Barrio/Logan Heights community, Chicano history, and will continue to serve as a site of resilience through art, history, and science. Museum Guests who purchase tickets for the 53rd Chicano Park Day will have the opportunity to see the premiere exhibition, PILLARS: Stories of Resilience and Self-Determination, the Local Artist Gallery, and the Museum Store that features exclusive CPMCC merchandise and work from over 35 different Chican@ and Indigenous artists. Due to a high volume of people visiting Chicano Park, purchasing our presale tickets will guarantee you entry on April 22, 2023. The first 200 people to attend the CPMCC on April 22nd will receive a CPMCC Commemorative Button! The inaugural exhibition, PILLARS: Stories of Resilience and Self-Determination is a collective historical narrative of Chicano Park and Logan Heights curated by Josephine Talamantez, Dr. Alberto Pulido, and Valerie Jaimes. This exhibition highlights grassroot-led groups that represent the heart of Chicano Park and it’s history including: Kumeyaay History, The Chicano Park Steering Committee, Aztlan Youth Brigade, Centro Cultural de la Raza, The Brown Berets, Danza Chichimeca-Tolteca, La Danza Folklorica, Teatro Chicano/a/x, Union del Barrio, Rolas Inolvidables de Aztlan, San Diego Lowrider Council, and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. In addition, the exhibition showcases an installation by Visionary Elder Artist, Salvador Roberto Torres. We look forward to seeing you!
