Imaginable Future - Hong Kong Films Screening Series @Yale/New Haven “Imaginable future” is a series of film screenings and discussions surrounding the theme of “lost future” or what Mark Fisher has termed as “a slow cancellation of future” (Fisher, 2014). Opening with “Blue Island” (2022), a critically acclaimed Hong Kong documentary film which recently gained a lot of international attention, this miniature film festival features a series of audio/visual works from young Hong Kong filmmakers and curators who are trying to reach an audience outside a predominant regime and commercial value. This series will explores the post-social unrest and post-pandamic feelings as well as an inter-Asian representation of an “imaginable future” for the “milk tea alliance”–Hong Kong, Thailand and Taiwan, countries haunted by the past and present–from filmmakers across various South and East Asian countries. Using film as a medium to visualize an imaginable future or “meta reality,”–Imaginable Future presents a cross-border, collective imagination of the world–a possible future that exists between the physical world and our mental mind. These screenings invite the audience to participate together–to talk about how collective memories, untold and unspeakable past and present happenings, have shaped an imaginable future that everyone can foresee.
