The 1st Annual Derby 4 the Luv of Art partners with local Louisville foundation PPAATH to showcase local art, music, Bourbon and Cigars. The event will be held on May 3, 2023 from 6pm-10pm at the Dalen Paristown Gallery (860 Vine Street, Louisville, KY 40204). Derby 4 the Luv of Art presented by Cjones Designs LLC will benefit The PPAATH Organization. The Kentucky-based Project to Preserve African American Turf History (PPAATH) is a 501c3 non-profit organization with a clear mission focused on creative inclusivity to inspire current and future generations through unrivaled storytelling centered on early African American achievement in horse racing. The PPAATH Organization in partnership with James Walton Productions has curated untold stories of early African American achievement in horse racing since 2007. Founders Leon Nichols and Calvin Davis in association with James Walton Productions are working on a beautiful screenplay, Photo-Finish: The Race of the Century. This first Black-led film project will be discussed on the night of the Derby 4 the Luv of Art event. Local Visual Artist Latora Schmidt who is a Louisville native, has dabbled in the realm of mixing canvas art with her love for fashion and the beauty of photography. Being a self taught Artist, Latora has developed a portfolio that encompasses an array of creative skills. She enjoys mixing mediums by adding 3D elements to wood and canvas or by taking non conventional materials and developing into wearable art pieces! Her love for the creative world has created a life long motto that “Everything is my canvas!” This spans from canvas art, fashion, set design, prop builds to turning whole rooms into art with interior decorating. Also accompanying Latora will be Visual Artist Carlos Jones. Carlos is the owner of Cjones Designs LLC. He is also a Louisville native who currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Carlos' works of art are currently on display at the Churchill Downs Museum. He has also showcased his works at Art Basel (Miami, FI) and the Seeme Gallery (NYC). The headliner musical guest will be Jazz Saxophonist Andre Wilson. Andre is also a Louisville native who plays regularly at The Black Jockey Lounge and The Palms Room. Accompanying Andre in the Patio Pavillion will be featured Artist Julius Keith. Julius is a rising superstar from Louisville who has performed with Grammy Award Winner Bryson Tiller and the likes of Artist Marrz. Also featured in the Patio Pavillion will be local Louisville Artist Stephen Jones. What's a Derby event without food and Bourbon? We will provide derby inspired food along with Bourbon and Cigar pairings. A hand painted signature bottle of Bourbon will also be available for bids in our silent auction. The event will also feature Atlanta/Texas based wine company Blount Wine Therapy which is owned by Ericka Blount. The company has most recently been awarded Wine of Distinction for 2022 by the #1 US News Ranked Black Wine Club abs. Festival; Black Vines- Oakland, California. This event will be a night to remember coined the New Renaissance MOVEMENT will feature some of the best talent and businesses Louisville and the world has ever seen.
