Description
Now in its 7th year, Lucille's Prince Week is sporting a change of venue and a refreshed event schedule! The annual event will morph into an all-day celebration at the Historic Eldorado Ballroom on Saturday, April 22nd. PRINCE DAY PARTY + COMMUNITY MARKET | 1 - 6 PM The day will kick off with a Prince Day Party + Community Market from 1-6 pm. The outdoors event, which will be free and open to the public, will channel the Eldorado's origins as a cultural celebration center, bringing the Prince Party to the people via a Prince soundtrack powered by DJ Elevated; an al fresco Prince-themed cocktail bar + menu; local food trucks; and an outdoor neighborhood market spotlighting community-driven culinary vendors. | No tickets are required for entry. PRINCE TRIBUTE CONCERT + AFTER PARTY | 8 PM - 12 AM The main event — a Prince Tribute Concert + After Party — will come to life in the heart of the Eldorado Ballroom from 8 pm to 12 am, giving patrons a first look at reimagined music venue. The event will feature live Prince Covers by Antonio Eyez; bar snacks by LHG's Chef Dawn Burrell; and a Prince-themed cocktail bar. A Prince Dance Party will follow the live concert, with music played by DJ Flash Gordon Parks. While GA Tickets grant attendees admission to the concert at 8 pm (drinks and food are not included), a VIP Ticket option is also available. The VIP ticket gives patrons early access to the concert venue from 6-8 pm, which includes a complimentary food spread created and curated by LHG Chef Dawn Burrell; complimentary drink tickets for two Prince-inspired cocktails; and first access to table seating. On the heels of its major renovation, Prince Week's transition to the Historic Eldorado Ballroom provides a preview of Lucille’s Hospitality Group’s latest project as the Ballroom’s new managing operator. The revitalized venue will make its debut as a collection of reimagined music, culinary and community-driven concepts under the hospitality group later this spring. An annual event, Lucille’s Prince Week captures the legendary spirit of Chef Chris Williams’s favorite artist Prince via cultural and culinary arts. Williams created the themed week following the passing of Prince on April 21, 2016, honoring the musicians life through a series of epicurean activations — which has included everything from Prince-themed cocktail menus to wine dinners over the years — alongside a recurring Prince Patio Party that spotlights local music talent via DJs and live cover bands. MORE ON ELDORADO BALLROOM Opened in 1939, Eldorado Ballroom provided residents of Third Ward with a cultural community celebration center where they could experience performers, hosts events, and celebrate milestones with dignity and without discrimination during the segregation era. A beacon for Black talent, Houston-based musicians such as Sam “Lightning” Hopkins and Johnny “Guitar” Watson honed their skills at the Eldorado and went on to bigger fame, while many internationally known jazz and blues musicians, including B.B. King, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Etta James, and Count Basie, also made regular appearances.
