LA GRANGE, IL — A La Grange church has been the victim of crime for the second time in a month. Last week, the First Congregational Church of La Grange reported that its gay pride flag had been burned overnight. On Facebook, the church wrote, "On Monday, we again had a hateful visitor to the church. This person attempted to burn our Pride flag. They lowered it and the American flag from the pole and set the rainbow aflame. They left both flags on the ground." The church said both flags were replaced as soon as the police report was filed. In the Facebook post, the church quoted Jeremiah 17:8, "Like a tree that's planted by the waters..." Last month, the church reported that two Black Lives Matter banners were stolen. The church said at the time it would remain "steadfast in our quest for justice." It also said that its rainbow banners had been shredded in the past. The latest incident attracted a number of Facebook comments expressing support for the church. One person asked whether video footage of the crime was available. The church said the camera was not operational, but that the issue has been taken care of.
