Description

The Lowcountry Alliance for Response is pleased to announce our Spring 2023 Workshop, hosted by the Warren Lasch Conservation Center at the Clemson University Restoration Institute on April 20, 2023. The Lowcountry Alliance for Response network aims to increase preparedness and resilience of cultural organizations in the Lowcountry by fostering local connections with emergency responders, supporting organizations in writing emergency plans and training staff, and advocating for inclusion of historically excluded stakeholders. We believe that with a regional focus we can better tailor the network to address the regional threats and risk factors we face as well as provide stronger connections with local first responders, emergency managers, and heritage professionals who may be of assistance in a time of crisis. This all-day workshop is open to cultural heritage institutions operating in the South Carolina Lowcountry. The workshop will consist of both a morning speaker session and an afternoon hands-on wet salvage triage training session. Attendees will hear from professionals working in the conservation and historic preservation fields who have knowledge and experience in risk assessment and disaster recovery for cultural heritage in South Carolina. The afternoon wet salvage session will allow attendees to handle different types of waterlogged materials in order to prepare them for a wet salvage situation post-natural disaster. This is an in-person workshop, and registration will be capped at 25 attendees. To secure your spot, please use the link to register. Once the registration limit has been reached, you may email Patricia Ploehn ([email protected]) to be placed on a waitlist. WLCC is supported by the Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture, Charleston Library Society, City of Charleston’s Emergency Management Division, Drayton Hall Preservation Trust, Historic Charleston Foundation, and the South Carolina Historical Society.
